Dr. Mentz

Henry A. Mentz, M.D., PA, FACS, FICS

Liposuction is the surgical procedure of reshaping the body or body parts by removing excess fatty deposits by the use of suction and a small hollow tube, or cannula. The cannula suctions the fat from selected areas of the body to create the desired contour. Liposuction can be performed almost anywhere on the body that suffers from excess fat tissue. Some of the most common areas treated include the abdomen, waist, thighs, buttocks, hips, back, arms, chest, calves, ankles, cheeks, chin and neck.

Liposuction is performed thru small incision made in the skin just large enough to accommodate the cannula. Dr. Mentz will reduce bleeding by first injection a medicated sterile liquid which also helps loosen the fatty tissue resulting in a safer and more effective result. Scarring is limited to these few small incision.

While some patients undergo major liposuction to remove 10-25 lbs. of excess fat, most patients prefer to remove small amounts of fat from specific areas. Moderate volume liposuction is liposuction with less than 5 liters or 10 pounds of fat. Dr. Mentz will often combine a tummy tuck (abdominplasty) with liposuction when a drastic change in appearance is desired.
